Foods That Make Your Mood Better
In general, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be super healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.
Eggs, you might be amazed to find out, are wonderful at combating depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for boosting your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Consume an egg and feel better!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all good for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the happier you will feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a super protein source.
Cold water fish are good if you want to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.
Some grains are actually great for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your body to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be better. Now you know that it helps you to elevate your moods also!
So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try some of these instead!
