Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood
Most of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we need to keep away from them. Often, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. Some foods really do boost your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are terrific at battling depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel better!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a great protein source.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you wish to fight depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.
It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all wonderful for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling starved can really make you feel terrible! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were just anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
