Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood
Most of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at dealing with depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Eat an egg and cheer up!
Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a superb protein source.
Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.
It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. It’s not difficult to feel low when you feel famished! These grains can improve your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest them quicker than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you know that green tea helps you to elevate your moods too!
See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
