Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
A lot of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. A number of foods honestly do boost your mood when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Eat an egg and feel better!
Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to combat depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!
Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
