Most of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are bad and must be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods honestly do boost your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Consume an egg and be happy!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel happier. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

Grains can be excellent for driving away a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you have a happier mood. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which is a mood improver. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You were just anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become better. And now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
