Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood
In general, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to consume. There are several foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, you may be amazed to learn, are wonderful at fighting depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for elevating your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Try consuming some eggs to jolly up!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.
If you wish to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.
It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you be happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body.
