Use Food to Boost Your Mood
A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that actually can boost your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you battle depression. You need to see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Try eating a couple of eggs to cheer up!
Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to combat depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you feel better. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can be awful! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is actually good for your mood. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You knew that green tea helps you be healthier. And now you are aware that it can help raise your mood too!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try these suggestions instead!
