Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

In general, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods really do improve your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you fight depression. You should make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and be happy!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel better. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.

Some grains are actually excellent for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel better. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. Feeling famished can be terrible! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is actually great for your mood. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also!

So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try several of these instead!
