Information on How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, can boost your mood. When you feel a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at fighting back depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Consume an egg and be happy!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a great protein source.

If you would like to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Grains can be excellent for fighting a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you feel happier. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel hungry! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is truly good for your mood. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood also!

As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try these suggestions instead!
