Information on How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Many of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, could boost your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to find out, are wonderful at combating depression. You need to make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for boosting your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Try consuming some eggs to feel better!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to beat back depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.

Some grains are really excellent for fighting off bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full too which can actually help to make your mood better. Feeling starved can be awful! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
