Foods That Make You Happy
Many of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we must stay away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for you. There are some foods that actually can raise your moods when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try consuming a few eggs to feel better!
Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.
If you wish to defeat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.
Some grains are truly excellent for driving away bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which is a mood improver. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. You digest them faster than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!
So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try some of these tips instead.
