Many of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we should stay away from them. At times, if the comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for you. A number of foods honestly do boost your mood when you consume them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, you may be surprised to find out, are terrific at combating depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating some eggs to cheer up!
Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all good for elevating your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein source.
If you would like to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. Feeling hungry can actually make you feel terrible! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew green tea could help you be better. Now you know that applies to your mood also!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
