To begin with this recipe, we have to prepare a few ingredients. You can have easy totoro charaben (kids bento) using 6 ingredients and 16 steps. Here is how you cook that.
The ingredients needed to make Easy Totoro Charaben (Kids Bento):
- Take 1 serving cooked white rice (to fill 1/2 the bento box)
- Prepare 1 sheet Nori seaweed for onigiri
- Make ready 1 slice cheese
- Prepare Pre-cut shredded nori seaweed
- Take 1 Edamame
- Take 2 to 3 Meatballs
Steps to make Easy Totoro Charaben (Kids Bento):
- Pack half the bento box with rice. If the box has a divider, use it. Keep the rice covered with plastic wrap while you work to prevent it from drying out. Put the meatballs in too.
- Cut the nori seaweed about 1cm bigger than the rice all around. The reason why it should be cut so large is because the nori shrinks a lot.
- Cut the top part into an arch shape.
- Take the plastic wrap off and cover the rice with the cut nori sheet. It should shrink before your eyes. Cover with the plastic wrap again. If you're not going to finish the bento right away, put it in the refrigerator.
- Make the parts. Cut 2 pieces out of the sliced cheese using the Kyarappa cutter as shown.
- If you slice off the end and put them together, it will become Totoro's mouth. Make it very wide.
- Cut out Totoro's eyes using the Kyarappa cutter as shown in the photo. Cut the two circles apart where they are connected.
- Cut out two small circles to make the Soot Sprites' eyes.
- Take the bento out of the refrigerator, and put the cut out parts on top. Tip: Place the eyes wide apart. Make the face long sideways! Don't use a long thin bento box.
- Punch out two sets of face parts using a nori punch. Use the eyebrow parts on Totoro's chest, and the cheek parts as the Soot Sprite's eyes. Use tweezers to place the parts.
- Here is how it looks with the nori parts in place. I used a regular paper punch from an office supply store for Totoro's eyes. I washed it well and use it for kitchen use only.
- Use pre-cut fine shredded nori seaweed to portray the teeth. Don't worry about the top and bottom ends sticking out.
- You can just cut off the ends later like this.
- Stick on 5 strips for the teeth, then add the ears and nose. To make the nose, cut an edamame in half and stick it on with mayonnaise.
- Cut the decorative dividers into ear shaped pieces, and fold them outwards. You can use old fashioned bamboo dividers, or any type you have.
- Finished!
Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood
A lot of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should avoid them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be extremely nutritious and good for you. There are a number of foods that really can boost your moods when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, you may be surprised to find out, are fantastic at battling depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try consuming some eggs to cheer up!
Make a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein source.
If you would like to defeat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.
Some grains are really great for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are fantastic at helping you feel better. They help you feel full too which can actually help to better your mood. It’s easy to feel low when you are starving! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be healthier. Now you are aware that it can help improve your mood also!
As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Try several of these instead!
