Foods That Make Your Mood Better

In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super nutritious and good for you. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, may boost your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. You must see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for raising your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try consuming a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel better. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you feel happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is truly great for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become healthier. Now you are well aware that it helps you to elevate your moods too!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a few of these hints instead.
