Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood

Most of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are terrible and to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that really can improve your moods when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. When you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for elevating your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Try consuming a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.

It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are terrific at helping you feel happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can actually make you feel awful! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you consume green tea. And now you know green tea can help you be happier too!

So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try a few of these instead!
