Foods That Make You Happy

Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and must be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could boost your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Consume an egg and feel better!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a great protein source.

Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel happier. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to make your mood better. Feeling starved can really bring you down! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you drink green tea. And now you are aware that it can help you be happier too!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try some of these instead!
