Most of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must avoid them. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are fantastic at battling depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Try consuming some eggs to cheer up!

Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to combat depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.

Grains can be good for fighting a bad mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all great for helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be healthier. And now you know green tea can help you be happier also!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Try several of these instead!
