Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood
A lot of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we ought to avoid them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.
Eggs, you might be amazed to find out, are fantastic at combating depression. You need to be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try eating an egg and be happy!
Make a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel better. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.
Some grains are truly wonderful for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping boost your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling famished can really bring you down! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods also!
So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try some of these instead!
