Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood
Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, can improve your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, you might be amazed to find out, are great at combating depression. Just be sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!
Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel better. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
Some grains are truly excellent for repelling bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. Feeling hungry can truly bring you down! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is truly good for your mood. You were just expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you become healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood as well!
Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a few of these tips instead.
